Tips for growing long beautiful eyelashes

Brush

Brush your eyelashes regularly; an eyelash brush will help you keep your eyelashes well maintained and stimulate growth. Purchase a soft eyelash brush and use it to smooth your eyelashes out in the morning with light brushing. When you brush your eyelashes, place the bristles of the brush at the base of the eyelashes near the roots and lightly brush it up to the tips of the lashes. Do not over brush; this should only be done once a day. Over brushing can cause your eyelashes to fall out.

Petroleum Jelly

The application of petroleum jelly at night will help eyelashes grow longer and thicker. Petroleum jelly protects the eyelashes from drying out and gives the illusion of volume by increasing the amount of moisture that each lash holds. This added moisture will stimulate healthy growth of new follicles. To apply the petroleum jelly, dip the bristles of an eyelash brush into petroleum jelly and lightly brush the lashes with it before bed. You can apply it with your finger or a Q-tip as well and put it all around your eye area, as it can also prevent wrinkles!

Take a Multivitamin

Take a daily multivitamin; if your body does not receive the nutrients it requires, the growth of your hair and nails will naturally slow down. Purchase a multivitamin that is suited to your gender and age range to receive the best results. This will not only increase the rate at which your lashes grow, but also the length and fullness of the eyelashes. As an added benefit, you will feel healthier and have healthier hair and nails from taking a daily multivitamin.

What to Eat for Clear Skin and to Prevent Acne

The Best Fruits and Vegetables for a Better Complexion

Fresh fruits and vegetables are without a doubt the best foods to clear acne. First, they are cleansing, providing both water and fiber to encourage the removal of waste from the body. The less toxins in the colon and bloodstream, the less that may have to be processed through the skin. Apples, pears, carrots, papaya, blueberries and raspberries are all great fiber sources.

Second, fruits and vegetables are loaded with nutrients for healthy skin. Green leafy vegetables contain vitamins A, C and E, which all act as protective antioxidants and encourage healing and the formation of new healthy skin cells. They also contain B vitamins for skin tone and to help the body manage stress — too much stress can trigger acne in some cases. Avocados contain vitamin C for repairing skin tissue after acne breakouts and essential fatty acids to support skin healing. They are also very high in potassium; deficiencies of this mineral are sometimes associated with acne. All berries are high in vitamin C and bioflavonoids.

What are the best fruits and vegetables to eat for clear skin? Eat a variety for a range of nutrition. Try eating a green salad every day and snacking on fresh fruit through the morning and afternoon.

Nourishing Grains for Beautiful Skin

Whole grains are another crucial part of a diet to eliminate acne. As with fruits and vegetables, they are high in fiber. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, adult women should consume about 26 grams of fiber, men should have about 38 grams. Grains are also great sources of B vitamins and skin minerals, including zinc, copper and silica.

Eat a variety of grains for your skin. Try enjoying oatmeal for breakfast at least three times a week. Switch from white rice to brown rice and white bread to whole wheat. Have fun cooking with different grains for lunch and dinner, such as quinoa, amaranth and barley.

What to Drink for Clear Skin

Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are what to eat for clear skin, but what you drink is just as important. Try to take in six to eight glasses of quality fluids every day, including water, fresh fruit juices and herbal teas. Drinking plenty of water will help to keep the skin hydrated and plump and support healthy blood circulation. Fresh juices supply nutrients to the skin. Treat yourself to a fresh fruit smoothie or vegetable drink each day. Herbal teas such as red clover, burdock root and dandelion leaves all support the body’s natural detoxification processes and can help to encourage clear skin.

What to Expect from Food

With a high-fiber, nutrient-rich diet as a foundation, your body is much more capable of dealing with acne and repairing itself. Healthy habits such as drinking enough fluids, switching to whole grains and eating a green salad every day should reduce blemishes. Still, diet alone is not a cure for acne. Excess oil production is often behind clogged pores and breakouts. Eating well can help to flush cells of waste and reduce the amount of bacteria on the skin. It is still important to practice healthy skin care habits to keep the skin clean, toned and moisturized. Also, get plenty of sleep and avoid foods that can trigger acne, such as sugary foods, fried foods, processed snacks and soda.

Top 10 winter skin care beauty secrets to help you look beautiful this winter

1. Always use a full-spectrum sunscreen even on cloudy days and when it’s chilly in winter. As you already know, the UVB rays are the burning rays in summer, but UVA rays are just as harmful and they are present all year round. UVA rays are responsible for causing wrinkles and skin cancer, and surprisingly, they can even penetrate glass.

This means you are not safe from them even indoors or whilst driving your car. Always protect your skin with a good quality sunscreen in winter as well as summer.

2. Don’t stay in the bath or shower too long. Although it’s tempting to enjoy a long hot soak on cold winter days your skin has a protective outer layer called the stratum corneum or acid mantle, which is a natural lipid barrier between your skin and the out side elements.

This natural barrier becomes easily damaged when the temperature and humidity drops. Avoid prolonged bathing and using hot water.

Water can sap moisture from this protective layer and when this happens it will leave your skin drier, flakier and more prone to damage or irritation especially in winter.

Don’t stay in the bath so long that your skin goes all pink and wrinkly.

3. Cut down on using acids and astringents. During the cold winter months avoid using alpha-hydroxy acid products and astringents on your skin because many of them contain alcohol.

Exfoliating is good practice but alcohol based products will strip your skin of vital protective oils, which will leave it sensitive and irritated.

Always moisturize your skin well with a good moisturizer after exfoliating.

4. Humidify the air around you in your bedroom and office to prevent your skin drying out this winter. Humidifiers help to keep the air moist and will help to soothe your dry lips and chapped skin.

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside.

5. Sip a warming hot cocoa and boost your antioxidant levels at the same time. Cocoa beans are a good natural source of flavonoids, one of the most powerful of the antioxidants.

Drinking hot cocoa on a cold winter’s evening will warm you up, make you feel good and give you a nice healthy glow.

6. Self-Tanning is a great way to give color to pale winter skin. With all the tinted moisturizers and tanning wipes on the market these days it’s easy to choose one to suit your skin type and tone.

7. Revive those tired feet. Use an exfoliating scrub for dry flaky skin on your feet. Dry with a soft towel and then moisturize.

Wear a pair of cosy cotton socks to bed overnight and you will find your skin is soft and smooth in the morning.

This works as a winter skin care tip for hands as well, wear a pair of soft cotton gloves to bed to stop the moisturizer rubbing off on the bedclothes.

8. Chapped winter lips look awful and can be downright painful. The continual urge to lick them to keep them wet only makes matters worse, and a vicious circle begins. Try to resist the urge to lick.

For lip winter skin care use a vitamin E based lip balm which will smooth and moisturize at the same time. Put it on before you go out into the cold winter air, several times during the day and last thing at night before you go to bed.

9. Protect your hair against the harsh winter elements. Use leave-in conditioners before you blow dry your hair or use hot curling tongs.

If you regularly use heat on your hair with hot brushes or tongs then deep conditioning once or twice a month should keep your hair soft and manageable.

Try scrunching a small amount of olive oil into the ends of your hair between washes to keep it hydrated. Put a small amount of olive oil into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together so that your palms glisten slightly. Then scrunch through the ends of your hair.

10. Repair winter skin cells. Blood and lymph fluid naturally nourish your skin but in the winter months blood flows less freely when you are cold, so you need to compensate by giving your skin extra protection and nourishment.

Use regenerating moisturizers and massage the skin in a circular motion to improve circulation. This will help to keep the skin’s outer layer healthy.
